m/m, y/y, SAAR - comparison periods
What it measures
Month-on-month compares with the preceding month, year-on-year with the same month a year earlier, and quarter-on-quarter with the preceding quarter. SAAR is a seasonally adjusted annualized rate.
Why traders follow it
Do not treat different comparison periods as the same measure. Annual inflation can fall because of a high base a year earlier even while prices continue rising month-on-month.
Check the country, period and source. A single value or regime label does not determine a trade's direction.
